Ok, let's start
I've been on this planet now for 45 years. There's no way I can start with a blank slate. So it will be just this. A statement. Let's get this beginning over with.
First observations:
- there is no beginning. So much work has already been done, always. To wit: you needed language to express yourself and fine motorskills to manipulate the keyboard to make these words appear.
- half of the time the biggest success in whatever you set out for is just the fact that you have started. The other 90% is all about the follow through. Most successful people I know are the ones who kept going at it untll they found a way to be successful.
- It helps to have the end in start, because it makes the boring insignificant parts along the way more meaningful. But big hairy audicious goals can be daunting to embrace and commit to. So sometimes you need to stop preparing and just start and learn by doing.
- Regardless how well you've prepared, start small. All changes are cheaper early on. Keep your end goal and vision straight and clear, but don't hesitate to tinker and pivot in the early stages.
- I love epiphanies, but they shouldn't distract you. Start with the straightforward things first. Whatever you think you're doing at start, you'll change your mind about it at some point, and accordingly change your plans. Often you come to see your efforts in a bigger context and realize that you're not doing what you actually want to be doing. That's fine. But if you have a plan, start with the plan first. Or you'll be full of action without progress.
That's it. For now. I have to bring the kids to kindergarten.
